Rothschild & Co and Manchester: a major milestone in a long-standing relationship
2024 marked the 60th anniversary of the opening of our offices in Manchester, where we have provided Global Advisory services since 1964 and Wealth Management services since 2015.
However our story in the city and region began in 1799 when Nathan Mayer Rothschild arrived there from Frankfurt and set up business as a textile merchant. British goods, especially modern textiles, were a key part of the Rothschild family business and early success. Nathan Mayer would go on to begin our UK business in London.
In the 19th century our UK business oversaw the financing of the Manchester Ship Canal, one of the greatest infrastructure projects of the age, designed to provide global access to the resources, factories and craftsmen of a region at the centre of industrial innovation.
