Our Year

Annual Review 2023
Concordia, Integritas, Industria
This motto, chosen by the Rothschild family in 1822, captured both the character of the family and the way they did business.
These words have underpinned the way we do things for more than 200 years; they still stand at the core of our approach to our business, our clients, our people and our broad sense of responsibility.

INTEGRITAS
— Our story — Our global scale — Our approach to business — Our sustainability ambition — Our people — Our approach to philanthropy
Rothschild & Co is one of the world’s largest and longest established independent financial services groups.
We have been at the heart of the world’s financial markets and the benchmark for outstanding client service, for more than two centuries.
Our group is made up of a team of over 4,600 talented people on the ground in 49 countries across the world, across three complementary businesses:
Welcome
Our independence and long-term vision allow us to grow the group, while remaining true to our values.”
In a challenging macroeconomic environment, our strategy of focusing on three complementary businesses has proved to be resilient. This balanced approach, our deep local knowledge gained through our global network, and our unique culture rooted in enduring trusted client relationships allow us to look forward with confidence while we continue to invest in and develop our group.
As a family-controlled company with roots dating back over 200 years, it was a natural and logical step in our history to take Rothschild & Co private in 2023. Our shareholders, made up of members of my family, a limited number of like-minded investors and the group’s Partners, share the same long-term vision for our group. Our independence and long term vision allow us to grow the group, while remaining true to our values.
Lastly, both my family and I are grateful for the hard work and flawless execution of our colleagues across the globe, who understand that our success requires innovation, creativity and a deep understanding of our clients’ needs. We are convinced that it is these ingredients that make Rothschild & Co what it is today: one of the longest surviving and successful independent financial services groups in the world.

Our year in pictures
We believe our performance is just one measure of a successful year. An equally important indicator is the growth and vigour of our community: in the relationships we build, the opportunities for development and the difference we make.
1. As part of Black History Month we welcomed UK Black-owned businesses to our London office.
2. Each year, our Global Graduate Programme brings together graduates from around the world for a four-week training programme, allowing graduates to hone their technical skills and start building their global network.
3. Several volunteers spent the morning at a school in London working with our charity partner SUGi, planting trees to create a new forest.
4. The Rothschild Archive held an open day for colleagues, friends and clients to view a selection of the treasures curated by the archivists and to learn more about The Archive’s work and the business and family’s history.
5. Students from universities, business schools and engineering schools gathered to listen to speakers from Five Arrows discuss the importance of sustainability and the environment for our business.
6. Our UK Wealth Management business and UK Women’s Network hosted an event for Buy Women Built, bringing together 25 female-founded businesses.
7. New Managing Directors gather at our inaugural Managing Directors Forum in London, engaging in both strategy workshops and opportunities to build relationships across our businesses.
8. US colleagues run and walk in honour of their late colleague, Thomas “Tommy” Costello, who passed away in 2021.
9. Over 100 colleagues and guests celebrate Pride Month at our UK LGBT Network’s annual Pride Breakfast.
10. Global Advisory was yet again recognised in many high-profile industry awards in 2023, with titles including Best Independent Investment Bank, Best Investment Bank for M&A and for Restructuring, and Western Europe’s Best Bank for Advisory.
11. Our Zurich office unveiled the latest show in its highly successful exhibition series, Moving Narratives, featuring artists sharing connections with the business locations of the five sons of Mayer Amschel Rothschild.
12. 21 Partners from across our offices gathered for our Group Partners’ Meeting in Scotland to share perspectives on group strategy, opportunities and challenges and to continue to build relationships across businesses. The programme included planting 1,200 trees for a SUGi Project for the local community.
13. An integral part of the Global Graduate Programme incorporates team and network-building; this year our graduates took part in Dragon Boat Racing.
